An interview with Priscilla Koukoui, an XR and emerging tech leader

This International Women’s Day we had the pleasure to interview Priscilla Koukoui who is the founder of OviSquare, an emerging tech consulting company. We talked about the improvement XR can bring to people’s lives and she also shared her leadership advice for future female founders.

What excites you most about extended reality technologies like AR and VR?

I am excited by both the great opportunity to use XR (AR and VR).

1 - To create business solutions to assist Humans – make it easier for collaboration while lowering cost and risks. Organisations need solutions for all the above these days!.

2 - As a medium to create stories to transform HumanITY

More generally I am excited by innovations and experimentations!

What was your first encounter with immersive tech that made you decide to work in this field?

I didn’t have one “aha” moment, but a convergence of experiences:

I was writing (and presenting) multimedia stories, always first person (the reader is the hero of the adventure); 

I was leading a theatre gig in uni, and have a spatial vision of stories.

I connect ideas, and understand how corporates can solve their problems using innovations, technologies especially immersive technologies.

It is just meant to be!

You have created multiple immersive multisensory stories in neuroscience, psychology and ethics throughout your career. How do you think immersive technologies can contribute to science and help improve people’s lives?  

A good story delivers a message that challenges the thinking. Good stories move you, and participate in building a better, more aware Humanity.

At work, we need to be careful to create value-based solutions which do not alienate workers. 

What do you think will be the positive and negative consequences of living in an augmented reality future?

Technologies are just a tool. They can be used for good or bad, like any tool. 

The “Why” is important and need to stay in mind, when we decide to download a new app, or create one.

What are your tips for women who want to get into the XR field?

Go for it! Diversity is needed in every field, especially in Tech, new Tech. We are building the future!

As a founder, and as a people leader, what lessons have you learnt over the course of your career? What do you think are the main challenges and opportunities for the next generation of women leaders?  

As a founder you do everything – you’re the accountant, the lawyer, marketer, sales etc. for your company. And you also need to learn to delegate!

Learn, share and repeat! 

As a people leader, you share the responsibility to assist your team members’ development, for them to go in the direction of their dreams too. 

The new generations of women leaders will benefit from the trail paved by the previous generations. We are far from being an equal society.

Women of the world: Go for it, go for whatever you feel like doing! Always! 

Work do not feel like it, when you’re passionate. So make sure to do something you love. Do everything with Passion. Follow your Passion!
